This program is 2 sessions and is offered 2 times this year.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Entrepreneurial families face a unique and complex journey. Navigating through family, businesses and ownership issues is a rewarding, but challenging process that can be aided by expert advice, theoretical grounding and practical tools.

This program was developed to provide business families with an understanding of the practical elements of entrepreneurial family issues and to guide you through the complex nature of family business dynamics. It will help broaden your understanding of why family businesses are distinctive and challenge the prevailing assumptions we have about them.

This program is focused on five core areas:
  1. Finding the balance between family and business.
  2. Understanding the different life stages and their impact on family and business dynamics.
  3. Understanding what it means to be an owner.
  4. Following an effective decision-making process.
  5. Planning for the future.
By the end of this program, learners will be able to understand:
How to understand and use “The Three-circle Model” and build your own family genogram.
How different life cycles affect the family and business and uncover missing conversations that may need to take place.
How to recognize the changes in life cycles over a long period of time.
The demands and dynamics around a single owner.
The difference between owners and owner/managers.
The distinctions between owners’ and managers’ roles and responsibilities in multigenerational ownership structures.
How structures serve to facilitate communication and keep individuals accountable.
How inclusive decision-making structures are important to align future direction and vision.
How creating a common vision is important for the sustainability of the family business.
That planning for the future is essential. Start where you are, as soon as possible.
